FAQ – Facial Rejuvenation FAQ for International Patients
This FAQ is designed for international patients considering facial rejuvenation in Turkey, including deep plane facelift, neck lift, temporal lift, eyelid surgery, and facial fat transfer. The answers are general and may vary depending on each patient’s anatomy, medical history, surgical goals, and treatment plan. A personalized consultation is required before any surgical decision.
What Is Facial Rejuvenation Surgery?
Facial rejuvenation surgery focuses on improving visible signs of facial aging such as skin laxity, sagging in the lower face and neck, loss of facial volume, and tired-looking eyes. Treatment may include a deep plane facelift, neck lift, temporal lift, eyelid surgery, or fat transfer depending on the patient’s anatomy and goals.
Facial Rejuvenation Basics
Facial rejuvenation may include deep plane facelift, neck lift, temporal lift, eyelid surgery, brow lift, lip lift, chin liposuction, and facial fat transfer. The exact combination is determined after medical evaluation.
A facelift mainly addresses sagging in the mid and lower face, while a neck lift focuses on loose skin, muscle bands, and contour changes in the neck. These procedures are often performed together for balanced facial rejuvenation.

A temporal lift elevates the outer brow and upper face area. It may help improve a tired or heavy appearance around the eyes, depending on the patient’s anatomy.
Yes. Facial rejuvenation is often performed as a combination of procedures such as deep plane facelift, neck lift, temporal lift, eyelid surgery, and fat transfer. Combining procedures can help create a more balanced overall result.
For Patients Traveling from the United States
Our clinic is structured around international patients, including those traveling long distances from the United States. The schedule is planned around the full journey rather than only the surgery itself, allowing time for arrival, rest, medical assessment, consultation, surgery, early recovery, postoperative checks, and a final review before the return flight.
Yes. Patients traveling from the United States are not normally scheduled to have surgery immediately after landing. The itinerary allows time to arrive in Istanbul, settle into the accommodation, rest after the long-haul flight, complete pre-operative assessments, and meet Dr. Safa in person before surgery.
No. For patients traveling from the United States and other international destinations, surgery is not planned for the day of arrival. Time is needed for rest, medical testing, anesthesiology assessment, and the final in-person consultation. This also allows the surgical plan to be confirmed after physical examination rather than relying only on an online assessment.
The clinic coordinates the main parts of the treatment journey so patients do not need to organize every step themselves. This includes treatment scheduling, hospital arrangements, accommodation, airport and local transfers, pre-operative testing, postoperative nursing, follow-up appointments, translation support when needed, and communication with the aftercare team after returning to the United States.
Consultation Process
The process begins with an online consultation using photos and a medical questionnaire. You reach out via WhatsApp and fill in a consultation form. Based on this, a personalized treatment plan is prepared.
Patients are asked to provide clear photos from multiple angles in natural lighting without makeup or filters. Specifically, we need 5 photos: front view, left profile, right profile, base view (chin slightly up), and slight top view with no glasses or accessories.
How can I find out if I am a suitable candidate?
No. Most patients complete their evaluation remotely. Once you send your photos and complete the health questionnaire, Dr. Safa will review your case and let you know whether you are a suitable candidate via WhatsApp. A final consultation takes place in person before surgery.
Yes, video consultations via Zoom or a similar platform can be arranged upon request.
Popular dates — especially in spring and autumn — fill up quickly, and your coordinator will share available dates with you.
Yes, absolutely. Many of our patients seek a second opinion, and Dr. Safa is happy to review your case independently. Simply send your photos, complete the VideoAsk questionnaire, and share any previous consultation reports or treatment plans you’ve received. Dr. Safa will provide his honest medical assessment and recommend the best approach for your specific situation.
Pre-operative tests include comprehensive blood work (complete blood count, coagulation profile, liver and kidney function), ECG (electrocardiogram), and chest X-ray. Additional evaluations may be performed for patients over 40 or those with relevant medical history. All tests are performed on Day 2 of your itinerary at the hospital. Surgery takes place on Day 3 with final anesthesia approval. However, if test results indicate certain values are not suitable, the anesthesiologist may request more detailed tests, which may incur additional fees.
If you have chronic medical conditions, are taking regular medications, or have had previous surgeries in the treatment area, please bring or send copies of relevant medical records, medication lists, and doctor’s letters. For specific conditions, Dr. Safa may request an approval letter from your primary care physician before proceeding.
Once you’ve submitted your photos and completed the VideoAsk health questionnaire, Dr. Safa typically reviews your case within 24–48 hours. Your coordinator will then share his medical assessment, recommended procedures, and preliminary package information via WhatsApp.
Surgery Details
Most facial rejuvenation procedures, along with major body contouring procedures, are performed under general anesthesia. Smaller operations such as hair transplant and upper blepharoplasty can be performed under local anaesthesia.
Facelift incisions are placed as discreetly as possible around the hairline and natural contours of the ear. Scars are usually more noticeable during the early healing period and gradually fade over several months. Final scar appearance varies between patients and depends on individual healing.
The duration typically ranges from 3 to 6 hours depending on the procedures performed. In most cases, all planned procedures are completed in a single session.
I have a chronic condition, is that a problem?
Blood thinners and certain supplements must be stopped at least 7–14 days before surgery. Every case is assessed individually, and a transparent health disclosure is essential; in specific situations, an approval letter from your primary care physician may be requested.
Dr. Safa specializes in comprehensive facial rejuvenation procedures including: full face and neck lift, temporal and midface approach temporal lift, scarless facelift (combination of neck, midface and temporal lift), upper and lower blepharoplasty (combined eyelid surgery), brow lift, rhinoplasty (piezoelectric technique), facial fat grafting, lip lift, buccal fat removal, chin and neck liposuction, and fat transfer to enhance facial contours. Additionally, specialized procedures such as cat eyes surgery are performed. Procedures are often combined for optimal, harmonious results.
There is no strict upper age limit — suitability is assessed based on overall health, skin health, skin elasticity, and skin type rather than age alone. Patients in their 60s and 70s have successfully undergone facial rejuvenation procedures. For younger patients seeking procedures like rhinoplasty, a minimum age of 18 is required. Dr. Safa evaluates each case individually.
For body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck or liposuction, patients are generally advised to be within 10–15 kg of their ideal weight and maintain a stable weight for at least 6 months before surgery. Weight requirements are normally recommended for all procedures and are particularly important for body contouring. However, for rhinoplasty and facial procedures, some flexibility may be shown with the doctor’s approval. Dr. Safa assesses suitability during the consultation and may recommend reaching a healthier weight range before proceeding.
Compression garments are mandatory for body contouring surgeries, lifting procedures, and liposuction. You will be provided with a medical-grade compression garment, which is included in your package. You’ll typically wear it continuously for the first 2–3 weeks, then during the day for an additional 3–4 weeks. For facial procedures, compression garments are generally not required.
The scarless endoscopic facelift is a minimally invasive technique using small incisions hidden in the hairline. It lifts the midface and temporal areas without the longer incisions required for a traditional facelift. Recovery is faster, and scarring is virtually invisible. However, it is most suitable for patients with mild to moderate sagging. Dr. Safa will recommend the best technique based on your degree of skin laxity.
Yes, facial fat grafting is highly effective for restoring volume to nasolabial folds, under-eye hollows, cheeks, and temples. Fat is harvested from your own body (typically abdomen or thighs), purified, and carefully injected to create natural, long-lasting volume enhancement. Fat grafting is used not only for volume but also to improve skin quality; for this reason, Dr. Safa frequently combines fat grafting with facelift procedures for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
Yes, Dr. Safa has extensive experience with revision surgeries for patients who are unhappy with results from previous procedures performed by other surgeons. Revision cases are assessed on an individual basis and may require additional techniques to correct asymmetry, scarring, or suboptimal results. Please share photos of your previous surgery results and any medical records when submitting your consultation request.
On Day 3 (surgery day), you’ll have a final pre-operative consultation with Dr. Safa. He will review your medical test results, confirm the surgical plan, mark the surgical areas directly on your face or body, answer any last-minute questions, and ensure you feel completely comfortable and informed before proceeding to the operating theatre. The general process is as follows: Day 1 is arrival and hotel check-in, Day 2 is pre-operative tests and consultation, Day 3 is when surgery is performed.
Patient Journey
Patients follow a structured plan including arrival, pre-operative consultation, surgery, hospital stay, recovery in a medical hotel, and a final check-up with travel clearance before returning home.
On Day 1, patients usually arrive in Istanbul and check in to the hotel. On Day 2, pre-operative tests and the in-person consultation take place. On Day 3, the final pre-operative review is completed before surgery.
Patients stay 1–2 nights in the hospital, followed by recovery in a medical hotel with regular monitoring by clinic nurses
The clinic has a dedicated team of experienced, multilingual coordinators including Defne, Belma, Fatih, and Elif. From the initial communication stage, your sales consultants such as Defne, Belma, or Fatih coordinate the entire consultation and reservation process. After you arrive in Istanbul and check into the hotel, patient coordinator Elif takes over and organizes the surgery process, hospital stay, and nurse visits. Your sales consultant also remains available for any needs you may have.
Dr. Safa Manav Clinic has a 4.9-star rating based on over 100 genuine patient reviews across platforms including Trustpilot, Google Reviews, and Whatclinic. The clinic has also received the Whatclinic Best Service Award 2025 in recognition of exceptional patient care and outcomes.
Yes, the clinic has video testimonials from previous international patients sharing their experiences. These can be viewed on the clinic’s website and YouTube channel. Your coordinator can also share specific patient testimonials relevant to the procedure you’re considering.
Absolutely. Your coordinator will provide a personalised 10-day itinerary outlining each day’s schedule including arrival, pre-operative consultations, surgery day, hospital stay, recovery days, nurse visits, final check-up, and departure. This gives you a complete picture of what to expect throughout your stay in Istanbul.
You will meet Dr. Safa (or your assigned surgeon) on Day 2 for your initial in-person consultation, on Day 3 for the final pre-surgery consultation and the surgery itself, during your hospital stay, and again on Day 9 for your final check-up before departure. Continuity of care with the same surgeon throughout your journey is a core principle of the clinic.
Yes, your coordinator can share before-and-after photos of patients with similar facial structures, age groups, and treatment goals. The clinic maintains a comprehensive portfolio of case studies across different procedures and patient demographics, which helps set realistic expectations for your own results.
Pricing & Reservation
The all-inclusive package covers: surgery, anaesthesia, hospital stay at a world-class hospital cooperated with Harvard Medical School, 24/7 nurse support, pre-operative blood tests, all medications, VIP transfers, and accommodation at the medical hotel. There are no hidden costs added during or after your surgery. However, for individual cases, some additional expenses may apply: compression garments, massage therapy, CO2 treatment, additional medications, or certain patient-specific pre-operative tests may incur extra fees.
Lower-priced quotes typically do not include hotel, transfers, or hospital fees — when the true total is calculated, the difference is minimal.
A deposit of $500 USD secures your chosen date and is deducted from your total package price. If you notify us at least 1 month before your surgery date, your date can be rescheduled.
No, one companion (accompanying person) is included in the package at no extra charge. However, a 3rd person (second companion) incurs an additional fee. Additionally, extra transfer requests may result in additional costs.
Both payment methods are accepted. However, there is a pricing difference: card payments incur an additional processing fee (typically around 10–15%), while cash payments are offered at a discounted rate. For example, a package quoted at $15,000 by card might be $13,500 in cash. Your coordinator will provide exact figures for both options in your quote.
The standard payment structure is: $500 USD deposit to secure your surgery date, with the remaining balance due upon arrival in Istanbul (before surgery). Payment plans or installments are generally not offered, but you can discuss your specific financial situation with your coordinator to explore available options.
Cosmetic procedures are typically not covered by medical insurance, as they are considered elective. However, if your procedure includes functional components (e.g., rhinoplasty for breathing issues, eyelid surgery affecting vision), you may be able to claim a portion of costs from your insurance provider after returning home. The clinic can provide detailed invoices and medical reports to support any insurance claims you wish to submit. Additionally, insurance can be arranged for a portion of the amount paid by patients.
The clinic occasionally offers limited-time promotional rates or discounts for specific procedures or when booking multiple procedures together. Prices are generally stable year-round, but special pricing may be available during certain periods. It’s worth asking your coordinator if any current promotions apply to your case.
Yes, the clinic values patient referrals and may offer discounted rates for patients who refer friends or family members. Specific referral discount terms vary, so please ask your coordinator for current referral programme details.
Travel & Stay
For major surgeries, the standard programme is 10 days / 9 nights. For smaller procedures under local anaesthesia, 3–4 days may be sufficient.
Flights are arranged by the patient independently. However, VIP transfers between the airport, hotel, and hospital are fully organized and included in the package. If you prefer, you can choose a different hotel or arrange your own transfers; in such cases, the relevant fee will be deducted from your package price.
Patients stay in a partner medical hotel equipped with 24-hour nurse support and emergency buttons. The clinic and hospital are located in Istanbul’s safest and most prestigious areas.
Yes, dental treatments and hair transplant services can be arranged through the clinic’s trusted medical partners
Room arrangements depend on your preference and the package selected. Typically, you and your companion will share a double room. An extra person fee applies even if staying in the same room. For privacy or comfort, you can request separate rooms or an upgrade to a larger room; these alternatives are available for an additional fee. Please discuss your rooming preferences with your coordinator when booking.
Essentials include: comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (button-up shirts are ideal for facial surgery to avoid pulling over your head), any current medications with prescriptions, slip-on shoes, travel documents (passport, travel insurance), phone charger, and personal toiletries. Avoid bringing valuable jewellery. The clinic provides post-operative compression garments and cooler bags where required, so you do not need to purchase these in advance.
While not mandatory, travel insurance is highly recommended. Choose a policy that covers medical complications, trip cancellation, and emergency medical evacuation. Ensure the policy does not exclude elective cosmetic procedures — some specialised travel medical insurance providers offer coverage tailored to medical tourism patients. Additionally, the clinic provides complication insurance for any complications that may occur during your stay in Istanbul.
Light sightseeing and short walks are generally permitted during your recovery days (Days 4–8), depending on your procedure and how you feel. However, avoid strenuous activities, prolonged sun exposure, and crowded areas. Your surgeon and coordinator will provide specific guidance based on your surgery type. Suitable areas in Istanbul offer cafes, shops, and parks within walking distance of the hotel.
The clinic and hospital follow all current Turkish Ministry of Health guidelines. While Covid-19 testing requirements have been relaxed, protocols are adjusted based on current public health recommendations. Your coordinator will inform you of any specific health measures or documentation required at the time of your booking.
Yes, the medical hotel is located in one of Istanbul’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, with numerous high-end restaurants, cafes, and shops within a 5–10 minute walk. Shopping centers such as Emaar Square are also within walking distance of the medical hotel. However, during the first few days post-surgery, meals can be delivered to your hotel room, and you are encouraged to rest rather than venture out.
Simply contact your coordinator as soon as possible with your updated flight details. The VIP airport transfer will be rescheduled to meet your new arrival time at no extra charge. If the delay affects your surgery schedule, your coordinator will work with you to adjust the itinerary accordingly.
Aftercare
Yes, patients receive regular nurse visits during their stay at the medical hotel. Upon discharge, your doctor prepares a personalised prescription, and for any unexpected pain, your coordinator is available 24/7.
Yes, the clinic’s coordination team continues to follow up via WhatsApp. Remote video check-ups can also be arranged when needed. Post-operative follow-up continues for 1 year.
For most facial procedures, you will receive travel clearance from Dr. Safa on Day 9 or 10, allowing you to fly home safely. For more extensive procedures, the doctor may recommend staying a few additional days. The final check-up before departure ensures you are medically cleared for air travel.
For procedures involving incisions, the clinic provides a special cream for scar care. Dr. Safa typically recommends silicone-based scar gels or sheets starting 2–3 weeks post-surgery, once incisions have fully closed. Brands like Dermatix, Cica-Care, or ScarAway are commonly suggested. The doctor will provide guidance on scar care and potential complications before your departure. Your post-operative care instructions will include specific product recommendations.
Follow-up care is primarily managed remotely via WhatsApp with your coordinator and Dr. Safa’s team. However, if you experience any concerns or complications, you may need to see a local physician. The clinic can provide detailed medical reports and post-operative instructions to share with any healthcare provider in your home country if needed.
Contact your coordinator immediately via WhatsApp (available 24/7). Share photos or videos of the affected area, and describe your symptoms. The medical team will assess the situation and provide guidance. In most cases, symptoms can be managed remotely, but if necessary, you may be advised to see a local doctor or, in rare cases, return to Istanbul for evaluation.
All necessary post-operative medications (antibiotics, pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs) are included in your package price and will be provided to you before discharge from the hospital. You will also receive detailed instructions on how and when to take each medication.
Recovery
Initial recovery typically takes 7–10 days. For major procedures such as a facelift, a recovery period of approximately 5 weeks is generally recommended. By the 5th week, most visible bruising has resolved. Most patients resume daily activities within 1–2 weeks.
The timing varies by procedure. For example, the first hair wash for transplant patients is performed on Day 2 by a clinic nurse. Your doctor will provide personalised instructions upon discharge
For major surgeries, swelling largely resolves within 3–5 weeks, but the final results typically appear within 3–6 months.
Light walking is encouraged from Day 4 onwards. For facial procedures, the recovery process varies from 2 to 6 weeks; during this period, light daily activities and non-strenuous sports (walking, light jogging) can be performed. After 3 months, more intensive sports (fitness, swimming, basketball) are recommended. For facial procedures, avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or activities that raise blood pressure for at least 3–4 weeks. For body procedures like tummy tuck, avoid core exercises and heavy lifting for 6–8 weeks. Full return to high-intensity workouts and contact sports is typically cleared after 8–12 weeks.
Alcohol should be completely avoided for at least 2 weeks after surgery, as it can interfere with healing, increase swelling, and interact with medications. It is advised to avoid alcohol until bruising and swelling (edema) have completely resolved, you have returned to your normal state, and you feel well. After 2 weeks, moderate alcohol consumption may be resumed gradually, but it’s best to wait 4–6 weeks for optimal healing.
Smoking significantly impairs healing and increases the risk of complications. You must stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery and avoid it for at least 4–6 weeks afterward — ideally longer. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, reducing blood flow to healing tissues and increasing the risk of poor scarring.
For facial procedures, avoid makeup on or near incision sites for at least 2 weeks, or until your surgeon confirms that incisions are fully healed. Mineral-based, non-comedogenic makeup is recommended when you do resume.
This depends heavily on your procedure and occupation. For office-based or remote work, many patients feel ready to return after 2–3 weeks for facial procedures. For physically demanding jobs, 4–6 weeks or longer may be required.
After facelift or facial surgery, you should sleep elevated with your head raised on 2–3 pillows and avoid sleeping on your side for at least 3 weeks to minimise swelling and pressure on healing tissues. After 3 weeks, you can gradually transition to side-sleeping if comfortable.
Light, non-strenuous sexual activity can typically be resumed after 2 weeks for facial procedures, provided it does not cause increased heart rate, blood pressure, or strain. For body procedures like tummy tuck, waiting 3–4 weeks is generally advised.
Results
The goal is to achieve a natural and refreshed appearance without an overdone look.
Results are long-lasting, especially with deep plane techniques, although natural aging continues over time. Results reach their final state 1 year after surgery. Facelift results typically make you appear younger for 10–15 years. Maintaining results is in your hands; healthy lifestyle habits such as good nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate water intake enhance the longevity of results. Fat grafting provides long-lasting volume enhancement, with approximately 60–70% of transferred fat surviving permanently.
Dr. Safa is committed to patient satisfaction and achieving the results discussed during your consultation. If you have concerns about your outcome, the first step is to communicate with your coordinator and Dr. Safa during your follow-up period. Communication continues for 1 year, and if it is agreed with the doctor’s approval that a surgical intervention is necessary, the required surgery for the patient is planned at a determined date 1 year after the initial operation. In this case, hotel, airport and hospital transportation fees, and surgery fees are not charged. However, extra surgical expenses (costs, medical supplies, etc.) are requested from the patient. Transportation costs are the patient’s responsibility, and a nominal amount is paid in total.
For facial procedures, initial swelling resolves significantly within 3–4 weeks, but subtle swelling can persist for 3–6 months. Most patients feel confident taking “after” photos around the 3-month mark, with final, fully-settled results visible at 6–12 months. For rhinoplasty, final results can take up to 12–18 months.
